Tjen wins singles title in San Francisco, Waves also wins doubles title

San Francisco, California — After a near-perfect weekend, the Pepperdine women’s tennis team captured the singles and doubles titles for the second straight season at the Battle of the Bay at the University of San Francisco’s California Tennis Club.

#44 Janice Janice (Jakarta, Indonesia) won the singles title after five consecutive matches without dropping a set. The junior interrupted her weekend with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Georgia’s #79 Dasha Vidmanova in the final.

Tjen and doubles partner Savannah Broads (Carrollton, Texas), the No. 6 tag team in the country, had little trouble winning the tag team, losing just 15 of their four games. They defeated Georgia’s Guillermina Grant and Dasha Vidmanova 8-2 in the final.

Broads also won the doubles title with his former teammates last season Anastasia Yamachkin. Broadus is also the defending singles champion at this event.

Pepperdine had half the semifinalists in the singles field as #49 Broadus won her first three matches before withdrawing in Saturday’s semifinals. In her Pepperdine debut, #36 banyavi tanchaiwa (Korat, Thailand) advance to Saturday’s quarter-finals before the end of the weekend.

Overall, the Waves have a cumulative record of 14-2 in singles and doubles over the weekend.
