Actress Annie Wersching died of cancer early Sunday morning, her publicist Craig Schneider told CNN. Wersching is 45 years old.
She is best known for playing FBI agent Renee Walker on the TV series “24.”
Wersching’s husband, Stephen Full, issued a statement to CNN:
“There is a huge hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us with the tools to fill it. She discovered miracles in the simplest of moments. She didn’t need music to dance to. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find us You. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere. We’ll find it,'” he wrote.
Wersching also voiced Tess in the “The Last of Us” video game. Neil Druckmann, creative director of new HBO Max series The Last of Us, tweets About the Wesching fit:
“Just learned of the passing of my dear friend Annie Wersching. We have just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is broken. My thoughts are with her loved one.”
(CNN and HBO Max are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)
The GoFundMe was set up by “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress Ever Carradine to support Anne’s children and husband “so they can continue to live in a way they know will make Anne proud.”
Wersching has appeared frequently in television dramas in the past and in the 2010s. In 2007, she played Amelia Joffe on the long-running ABC soap opera General Hospital. Her breakthrough role came in 2008 as FBI agent Renee Walker on the hit Fox series “24,” which starred alongside Kiefer Sutherland in seasons seven and eight .
Some of Wersching’s other notable TV credits include her role as the love interest of Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) on Amazon Prime’s 2014 series “Bosch,” and her recurring role as villainous vampire Lily Salvatore on The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.”
Wersching, who plays Queen Borg in 2022’s “Star Trek Picard,” has often shared photos of herself in full costume and thanked makeup artists and prosthetic artists for turning her into an interstellar villain. Wersching’s role in “Star Trek Picard,” which aired on Paramount+, is listed by IMDb as one of the actress’ last professional work.
Wersching’s husband ended his statement on Sunday with a touching reminiscence.
“If I were driving our kids, the love of her life, down winding driveways and streets, she would yell BYE! Until we were out of hearing range and out into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Goodbye, my friend. “I love your little family…”
